Role Summary
Reliability Engineering Technician (PdM) applies advanced predictive maintenance technologies to diagnose root causes and recommend corrective actions to prevent equipment failures. The role involves collecting reliability data, analyzing trends, and collaborating with the Reliability group to adjust PM frequencies and procedures. You will install sensors, perform inspections, train mechanics on precision maintenance practices, and prepare engineering analyses and reports. You will communicate findings to customers and supervisors and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for compliance with applicable corporate and divisional policies and procedures.
- Performs Predictive Maintenance (PdM) procedures on equipment such as HVAC systems, pumps, blowers, motors, agitators, compressors, reactors, steam and water systems, and related equipment.
- Collects and interprets machine reliability data using vibration, ultrasonic, and infrared analysis techniques; works with the Reliability group to evaluate existing PM frequencies and procedures and adjusts based on historical trends; determines root cause and recommends actions based on data from PdM technologies.
- Performs pipeline inspections using boroscope and sewer camera equipment; conducts ultrasonic thickness gauging and airborne ultrasonic testing; performs non-intrusive pipeline flow measurements.
- Specifies, orders, and installs accelerometer sensors for continuous or periodic vibration monitoring; installs sample ports; collects oil samples for chemical analysis; provides findings and corrective actions based on tribology reports.
- Provides technical support to maintenance and engineering; assists in training Senior Mechanics on precision maintenance practices (e.g., laser alignment, belt tensioning); conducts hands-on instruction for less experienced tradespeople; aids in elevating Senior Mechanics to PdM Technician level.
- Analyzes PdM measurements and provides engineering analyses to clients regarding equipment condition; prepares reports to Plant Engineering as required.
- Participates in workgroup meetings and seeks methods to improve productivity, reduce costs, and increase customer satisfaction.
- Processes paperwork as needed, such as work orders, requisitions, and reports.
- Effectively communicates job status to customers and supervisors and shares adequate information with other work groups when transferring work orders.
