Role Summary
The Rare Disease Business Manager (RDBM) leads sales and territory growth in narcolepsy type 1, executing strategic plans and collaborating with cross-functional teams to educate healthcare providers and drive patient access to a new therapy. Reporting to a Regional Business Leader, the role supports a new product introduction in a novel therapeutic area and builds relationships with targeted HCPs within the geography. After regulatory approval, the RDBM focuses on generating demand by informing clinicians about the product, the orexin system, and narcolepsy type 1. Location: Nevada β Virtual.
Responsibilities
- Results Focused: Demonstrates urgency to drive results and achieve strong performance through high levels of sales activity for a rare disease product introduction.
- Clinical Expertise: Possesses disease-state and product knowledge to educate HCPs and drive demand.
- Sales Strategy and Execution: Post-approval, drive sales by implementing sales and marketing plans, using approved on-label materials, and managing territory activities to achieve goals and advance NT1 diagnosis and treatment.
- Specialty Customer Engagement: Build relationships with and educate sleep specialists, neurologists, pulmonologists, sleep centers and staff on disease state and Takeda orexin therapies.
- Strategic Analysis and Territory Planning: Analyze local, regional, and national trends and apply data to tailor strategies to market needs.
- Communication Skills: Communicate effectively with specialty HCPs and accounts; use CRM to document profiles, pre-call plans, and post-call activities.
- Financial Responsibility: Manage a territory budget in line with Takeda policies.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Patient Access, Market Access, Marketing, and Sales leadership to align on strategies and improve outcomes; foster accountability and engagement.
- Compliance and Ethical Standards: Uphold patient-first values, comply with policies and laws, and seek clarification on compliance matters.
Qualifications
- Required: Bachelorβs degree β BS/BA.
- Required: 3+ years of successful selling experience in pharmaceutical, biotech or medical device and/or relevant clinical or industry experience; OR 2+ years of successful selling experience at Takeda.
- Required: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Required: Proven ability to navigate complex selling environments and influence across decision-makers in key accounts.
- Required: Strong business acumen and strategic planning skills to identify and act on selling opportunities.
- Required: Demonstrated territory planning, strategic account management and prioritization skills; ability to interpret analytical data to create effective sales strategies.
- Required: Strong collaborative skills and ability to work within a matrix of cross-functional partners on behalf of the customers served.
- Required: Understanding of payer access and reimbursement at territory, regional, and state levels.
- Required: Adaptability to changing market conditions and customer needs.
- Required: Demonstrated learning agility with ability to develop and apply clinical expertise and selling skills.
- Required: Must reside within the territory or close proximity to the assigned geography.
- Preferred: 5+ years of pharmaceutical sales experience, preferably in rare disease or sleep disorders.
- Preferred: Sales experience coordinating with patient access and market access teams.
- Preferred: Relevant clinical or industry experience.
- Preferred: Consultative/needs-based selling skills.
- Preferred: Experience working in a highly regulated marketplace.
- Preferred: Adept at leveraging emerging technologies, digital tools, and openness to AI-enabled processes.
Additional Requirements
- Valid Driver's License.
- Travel: Ability to drive and/or fly to accounts and occasional business meetings; some overnight travel up to 25-50% may be required depending on geographic assignment.
- Training: Mandatory product training with examinations; training may involve live instruction, independent study, role play, and may affect exempt status after completion.
