Position Brand Description

The Project Engineer is responsible for managing capital projects portfolio and the PMO at LP2 (typically <$5M), ensuring successful delivery through the application of key project management tools related to scope, schedule, cost, and risk. This role provides Owner/User representation throughout all design, construction, and verification phases, including the coordination with LP2 Operations or other stakeholders. The Project Engineer supports conceptual, basic, and detailed design phases in collaboration with GFD, ETC, and third-party firms, and leads technical reviews to ensure design accuracy and compliance. Leveraging engineering first principles and lessons learned from other Lilly sites, the Project Engineer provides process and design support, engages cross-functional teams, resolves issues, and supports commissioning and qualification of new installations. As needed, the role may extend to supporting large capital projects, including user requirement development, design oversight, and verification activities to ensure timely and compliant project execution.

Key Objectives/Deliverables

  • Utilize key project management tools related to planning and execution, including scope, schedule, cost, and risk management, to ensure project objectives are met.
  • Provide Owner/User representation to ensure LP2 Operations and other stakeholders are appropriately involved in all phases of design, construction, and verification.
  • Approve project documentation and deliverables on behalf of Operations or other Owner/User groups, as needed.
  • Support conceptual, basic, and detailed design phases in collaboration with GFD, ETC, and third-party engineering firms.
  • Lead technical reviews of contracted designs to ensure accuracy and alignment with operational requirements; may include formal approvals.
  • Apply engineering first principles to execute project tasks and solve technical challenges.
  • Provide engineering support including process understanding, design input, and integration of lessons learned from other Lilly sites.
  • Represent or engage functional groups (e.g., Operations) on assigned projects, escalating concerns to resolve issues effectively.
  • Respond to questions from construction and commissioning teams; oversee and support commissioning and qualification (C&Q) of new installations.
  • As needed, support large capital projects by developing user requirements, performing design reviews, overseeing installation, and supporting verification activities.
  • Ensure timely project delivery by applying project management tools and engineering analysis to meet business needs and functional design goals.

Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent experience.

Additional Preferences

  • Understanding of pharmaceutical GMP manufacturing and previous manufacturing support experience.
  • Critical thinking and judgment.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
  • Previous experience supporting Drug Products and Drug Substance and/or high purity water unit ops.
  • Previous experience in capital projects.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt Certification.
  • Solid understanding of the cGMPs and all available technical resources (Corporate Policies and Procedures, Engineering Technical Guidelines, Project Delivery Manual, Master Specifications, drawing management, etc.).
  • PMP certification.

Other Information

  • Must complete learning plan for PMO project manager.
  • Normal working hours are day shift, Monday-Friday. Occasional off-hour coverage may be necessary due to planned implementations or emergency support, including potential for support during corporate holidays.
  • Periodic updates to Senior Manufacturing Leadership may be required.
  • Travel is expected to be less than 10%.
  • Tasks require entering manufacturing and laboratory areas which require wearing appropriate PPE. Makeup cannot be worn in manufacturing areas.

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is
$64,500 - $167,200.

Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
