Operations
Responsibilities:
- Provide technical assessment and support for API manufacturing in the Kilo Lab and High Potency Lab.
- Evaluate scale-up feasibility and rig fit for new chemistries using kinetic, mass-transfer, and heat-transfer modeling/experiments to transfer from gram- to kilogram-scale reactors.
- Design, test, and install new equipment for evolving portfolio/reaction needs.
- Design, operate, and troubleshoot kilo-scale reactor systems (glass-lined/Hastelloy reactors, agitated filter-dryers); partner with chemists and shape plant design (piping, mixing, heat transfer, automation).
- Engineer containment and safe-handling strategies for HPAPI (isolators/glove boxes, OEB practices, dry-end solids processing).
- Optimize crystallization, distillation, extraction, and isolation unit operations; resolve polymorphism/particle-size issues and track impurity fate/purge.
- Ensure quality/safety/cGMP compliance; author/review technical reports, regulatory submissions, and lab notebooks.
- Drive cross-functional execution via impact/risk assessments and project plans with QA mindset.
- Develop or review plans and timetables for project work.

Basic Requirements:
- BS or MS in chemical engineering (or related) and 1–4 years in pharmaceutical/biotech/CMO process engineering for API manufacturing or development.
- Authorized to work in the U.S. full-time; Lilly does not sponsor work authorization/visas.

Additional Preferences (select):
- Process development/chemical engineering expertise; team collaboration with accountability.
- Experience with DeltaV, Dynochem, Aspen, and/or electronic lab notebooks.
- Kilo-scale equipment experience; HPAPI containment (isolators, glove boxes, OEB).
- Organic chemistry unit ops (crystallization, distillation, extraction) and analytical techniques (HPLC/UPLC, MS, NMR, GC, KF, DSC, XRD); gram-to-kilo cGMP scale-up.
- Bioconjugate unit ops (single use, TFF, chromatography).
- Strong analytical/problem-solving, communication, initiative, process control understanding, improvement mindset, mentoring.
