Role Summary

The Preclinical Manufacturing and Process Development department is seeking an experienced professional to operate, maintain, and repair automated low- and ultra-low-temperature biobanks with a total capacity of approximately 4.3 million samples, supporting research and development efforts. In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to manage and distribute large collections of research samples using both manual and automated cold storage technologies. You will propose innovations to sampling workflows, implement preventative maintenance, leverage data-driven decision-making, and evaluate new technologies to advance the automation of cold storage systems.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, and repair automated low- and ultra-low-temperature biobanks, ensuring continuous functionality and adherence to operational specifications.
  • Collaborate with sample management teams, Facilities Operations, HVAC teams, vendors, and other stakeholders to support uninterrupted operation of automated biobanking technologies and resolve issues as needed.
  • Assist with routine automated sample handling, distribution, and inventory management; train team members to troubleshoot equipment as needed.
  • Proactively supervise, document, and analyze equipment performance to ensure systems operate within defined specifications and performance thresholds.
  • Develop and prioritize recurring equipment maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and maintain system reliability.
  • Identify and implement new strategies and technologies to improve sample management workflows, including automation improvements and data integration.
  • Collaborate with IT groups to maintain and optimize software interfaces that support sample management and platforms for acquiring, monitoring, and analyzing system performance data.

Qualifications

  • Required: PhD with 0–3 years, MS with 8+ years, or BS with 10+ years proven experience. Experience with Liconic cold storage technologies and BiOLiX software is highly desirable.
  • Preferred: Extensive expertise in automated biobanking cold storage technologies; strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, and control systems used in ultra-low-temperature environments; ability to operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair automated biobanking systems including robotic sample handling; strong written and oral communication; demonstrated leadership abilities and prior mentorship experience; track record of cross-functional project or team management.
