Role: Process Automation Engineer – Packaging at Lilly, focused on supporting and managing advanced packaging operations in a new, high-tech facility. Responsibilities: lead automation design, installation, qualification, and startup of packaging lines; serve as technical owner for integration with manufacturing systems; review OEM controls and safety designs; develop automation verification and qualification activities; support lifecycle management of manufacturing platforms; troubleshoot and optimize manufacturing system interfaces; collaborate with cross-functional teams including Quality, Operations, IT, OEMs, and global platform teams; lead system startup readiness and continuous improvement initiatives; mentor engineers and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Requirements: Bachelor's in STEM; 7+ years of process engineering and automation experience, preferably in pharma manufacturing; proficiency with control systems (Studio 5000, FactoryTalk), automation, and manufacturing interfaces; knowledge of GMP, CFR, OSHA standards; experience with facility startup, commissioning, and retrofit projects. Preferred: technical leadership, project management, pharma GMP familiarity, knowledge of robotics and vision systems, statistical process analysis, and proven ability to navigate ambiguity in complex projects. High-Value: biologics or small-molecule packaging, manufacturing automation, lifecycle management, validation, and regulatory compliance in a cGMP environment. Work setup: primarily on-site, with 25-50% domestic and international travel during build-up, reduced travel (~5-10%) during operations.
