Principal Scientist – Protein Formulation & Biophysical Characterization (High-Concentration Biologics)

Key Responsibilities
- Design and execute experimental studies to develop and optimize protein formulations across biologic modalities (mAbs, fusion proteins, bispecifics, ADCs, peptides, etc.) in liquid and lyophilized dosage forms.
- Apply biophysical/physicochemical characterization to assess and mitigate risks (aggregation, viscosity, stability).
- Analyze data, generate mechanistic insights, and communicate findings to scientific teams.
- Develop and advance novel formulation strategies and enabling technologies for high-concentration biologics.
- Build scalable approaches (experimental workflows, screening methods, predictive tools) applicable across programs.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to implement/integrate new technologies.
- Build collaborations with academic and industry partners; contribute via publications, conference presentations, and industry consortia.
- Serve as technical liaison/subject matter expert with the Device Center of Excellence for device selection.
- Provide formulation expertise to project teams and support development decisions; contribute scientific input to regulatory documentation as needed.
- Lead a cross-functional group focused on subcutaneous delivery of biologics; lead focused technical initiatives/platform problems.

Education & Experience
- PhD in Pharmaceutics/Pharmaceutical Sciences/Biophysical Sciences/Biochemistry/Chemistry/Biomedical/Chemical Engineering or related fields with 3–5 years relevant experience in biologics formulation/biophysics/drug product development (industry preferred).

Must Have
- Strong background in protein formulation for parenteral biologics.
- Hands-on biophysical/analytical characterization and data interpretation; proficiency with DLS, DSC, DSF, SEC-MALS, NTA, CD, FTIR, fluorescence spectroscopy, rheology; ability to design multi-technique studies.
- Familiarity with parenteral dosage forms and delivery considerations.
- Ability to analyze complex data and communicate actionable insights.

Nice to Have
- Protein design/engineering expertise; developability hot spots; structure-function relationships.
- Deep understanding of high-concentration challenges (viscosity, self-association, aggregation, LLPS, colloidal instability, opalescence; interaction parameters like kD, B22).
- Knowledge of subcutaneous delivery fundamentals (injection constraints, tissue interactions, injectability, bioavailability, container closure compatibility).

Optional Technical Skills
- Experience formulating oligonucleotides/peptides/non-mAb modalities.
- Molecular modeling/dynamics; ML/AI and QSPR for formulation or protein behavior prediction.
