Role: Principal Scientist leading physics-based modeling and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) within the Digital Insights team in Development Sciences and Clinical Supply Digital Technologies. Objectives: advance digital tools to improve scale-up processes, scale-down model development, and engineering simulations for biologics and small molecules. Responsibilities: oversee CFD analyses of bioreactor mixing, gassing, and hydrodynamics; design and validate scale-down models that ensure engineering equivalence; extend modeling to other unit operations like harvest and TFF; guide project execution from problem framing to stakeholder communication; mentor junior scientists; shape modeling standards and roadmap. Requirements: Ph.D. or M.S. with 6+ or 8+ years of industrial/pharmaceutical experience; strong expertise in transport phenomena, fluid mechanics, CFD using tools such as ANSYS Fluent, STAR-CCM+, or OpenFOAM; proven experience characterizing bioreactors and linking CFD outputs to scale-up decisions; scripting skills in Python or MATLAB; ability to validate models and communicate uncertainties. Preferred: biologics processing experience, familiarity with shear-sensitive biologics, single-use bioreactors, multiphase modeling, and data-driven surrogate modeling. HighValue: biologics, cell culture bioreactor scale-up, CFD for bioprocessing, physics-based simulation, process development, scale-down modeling, cross-functional collaboration. WorkSetup: hybrid remote in the US, with 10% travel.
