Principal Scientist-PKDM, Modeling and Simulation
Responsibilities:
- Devise and implement quantitative analysis and strategies to inform decision making in drug development using mathematical modeling and quantitative pharmacology principles (mechanistic and translational modeling)
- Collaborate with project team representatives within PKDM and multi-disciplinary teams to generate key knowledge to inform quantitative strategies
- Conduct hands-on work on fit-for-purpose mathematical models (PK-PD, QSP, PBPK) using relevant modeling tools; apply AI-ML strategies to modernize traditional PK-PD modeling
- Document and archive contributions (data analyses, mathematical models, summary presentations, and reports) to be shareable
- Summarize and articulate findings; communicate conclusions to project and cross-functional teams and participate in team discussions supporting decision making
- Build collaborations with peers and stakeholders within/outside PKDM (chemistry, biology, toxicology, biomarkers, and protein scientists)
Qualifications:
- Basic: PhD/PharmD/MD and 2 years applying quantitative PKPD principles to drug development, or Master’s degree and 5 years, or Bachelor’s degree and 7 years
- Preferred: PhD in chemical/biomedical engineering, applied mathematics, quantitative pharmaceutical sciences or related field (2+ years in drug discovery/development)
- Proven systems modeling/simulation experience to support strategic decision making
- Essential proficiency with systems modeling approaches (e.g., differential equations, nonlinear mixed effects, logic, stochastic, agent-based, other mechanistic modeling)
- Essential hands-on experience with relevant software/programming (e.g., R, Simbiology, MATLAB, C)
- Strong critical thinking and communication across broad disciplines; self-driven; flexible; works independently and in teams; excellent oral/written communication
