Role Summary

Principal Scientist, Metabolomics responsible for leading metabolomics and bioanalytical LC-MS activities within the Translational Profiling group, collaborating across disease areas to advance drug discovery programs and implement innovative technologies. Located onsite in Cambridge, MA, with global collaboration across Basel and Cambridge.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with project partners to design and execute analytical studies addressing key scientific questions for drug discovery programs.
  • Lead and participate in lipidomics and metabolomics projects from early research to patient translation.
  • Champion innovative technology and cross-disciplinary initiatives to augment the groupβ€šΓ„Γ΄s analytical capabilities.
  • Develop and optimize tools for understanding metabolism and transport, identify disease-associated lipid markers, and study metabolic flux.
  • Maintain a state-of-the-art lipidomics and metabolomics technology platform and align with project requirements.
  • Execute all aspects of analytical studies including sample preparation, LC-MS analysis, data processing, and analysis.
  • Document work in the internal documentation system; present outcomes to project teams and plan follow-up steps.
  • Develop and implement new LC-MS methods based on project needs.
  • Contribute to evaluating and implementing state-of-the-art analytical methodologies to elucidate metabolism in disease and response to therapeutics.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, or related field with a minimum of 2+ years of postgraduate experience, or MS/BS with 10+ yearsβ€šΓ„Γ΄ pharma/biotech experience.
  • Expertise in biological mass spectrometry and metabolomics with quantitative targeted/multi-targeted LC-MS analyses of metabolites and lipids; metabolic profiling in complex matrices.
  • Experience in sample preparation and extraction for various cell types, tissues, and biofluids to generate material for MS analysis.
  • Proven ability to document experiments and results in electronic lab journals or LIMS.
  • Strong problem-solving, independent thinking, and excellent communication/presentation skills for multidisciplinary audiences.
  • Collaborative, matrix-environment mindset with ability to inspire and share results across teams.
