Description
Join the Immunology & Respiratory Department’s Discovery Sciences Team to identify and develop transformational drugs modulating B and T cells in immune-mediated diseases. As a member of the Discovery Sciences Team, you will work in a highly innovative environment to advance global portfolio of novel targets in diseases of interest.
In this position you will design and execute independent research that supports R&D projects. Implement new technology and new experimental designs. Manage and prioritize projects within the laboratory. Implement and communicate tactics for achieving overall R&D project goals. Responsible for the management and development of scientific staff as applicable.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of PhD and laboratory scientists
- Planning and analyzing experiments with direct reports
- Collaborate effectively across the global I&R organization and with global key stakeholders to deliver high quality drugs for clinical efficacy
- Responsible for developing and leading innovative concepts and effectively presenting to senior management
- Work in a fast-paced, high-volume setting, managing multiple tasks simultaneously and effectively prioritizing responsibilities
- Independently designs and performs scientific experiments with a predefined goal including developing new methodologies, protocols and or test procedures that contribute to core group/research goals and reflect expert knowledge; Direct and oversee experimental design and results of technicians and junior level scientists
- Contributes to defining R&D team goals and collaborates with scientists within and outside functional area in achieving them; Assumes departmental responsibility for projects OR has ability to participate as representative on multiple project teams and contribute to defining expertise-related aspects of overall program goals
- Prepares clear technical reports, publications and oral presentations. Independently communicate results in the form of reports and/or presentations; Deliver updates to senior level management in context of overall project goals
- Develops broad knowledge in field of expertise, including the ability to interpret current literature relevant to R&D projects, and visibility outside of functional area
- Assumes responsibility for direct reports as needed including recruiting, managing, mentoring and developing scientific staff
- Complies with all applicable regulations; Ensures that work performed in area of responsibility is conducted in a safe and compliant manner; Maintains proper records in accordance with SOPs and policies
- Contributes to departmental administration; Demonstrates fiscal responsibility with respect to cost of experiments, technology, external collaborations, and travel
Requirements
- Ph.D. Degree or equivalent 5+ years related experience in a related field or equivalent
- Experience in the pharmaceutical industry is highly desired (minimum of 3-4 years)
- Previous managerial experience is highly preferred
- Deep expertise in Immunology is a must, experience in autoimmune diseases is a plus
- Experience with lymphocyte functions and modulations (B and T cells) is highly desired
- Strong presentation skills and the ability to work in highly matrixed environment is essential
- Demonstrates a broad knowledge of field
- Appropriate level of understanding of applicable regulations
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in an interdisciplinary environment
Compensation:
This position, Principal Scientist, offers a base salary typically between $140,000.00 and $222,000.00. The position may be eligible for a role specific variable or performance based bonus and or other compensation elements. For an overview of our benefits please click here.
