Role: Principal Scientist I/II specializing in AAV gene therapy process development, focusing on downstream purification and platform process innovation for next-generation AAV vectors. Responsibilities: lead a 3-5 person team, develop and optimize downstream processes, support early drug discovery from target validation through lead development, transfer manufacturing knowledge, and collaborate across upstream, analytical, and R&D teams to advance pipeline programs into clinical phases. Requirements: PhD in bioprocessing, biochemical engineering, or related field; 3+ years in biotech/pharma process development; hands-on experience with affinity and ion-exchange chromatography (AKTA systems); proven people management skills; strong communication, organization, and problem-solving abilities. Preferred: experience in viral gene therapy, particularly AAV platforms. High-Value: focus on gene therapy, AAV vectors, downstream process innovation, early-stage development, and clinical transfer; onsite in San Diego; collaboration with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced, matrix environment.
