Role Summary

This position provides a chance to develop next-generation Cancer Immunology therapies that improve patient outcomes. We seek an innovative scientist with leadership potential to drive drug discovery from target nomination to IND filing within the Discovery Biology Team at Bristol Myers Squibb in Cambridge, MA. The ideal candidate will be motivated, independent, and able to work within and lead cross-functional antibody discovery teams, supporting patient and indication selection as well as the development of a biomarker plan.

Responsibilities

  • Apply comprehensive expertise in cancer immunology and antibody drug discovery to lead cross-functional discovery teams from target identification through IND submission.
  • Oversee and actively contribute to the activities of the biology team, ensuring effective support for in vitro experimental workflows.
  • Integrate internal screening data, reverse translational datasets, and insights from scientific literature to propose and develop innovative strategies in Cancer Immunology.
  • Collaborate with leaders from key functional areas such as in vivo pharmacology, translational biology, DMPK, informatics, and predictive science to establish priorities, evaluate risks, and advance project objectives.
  • Leverage advanced scientific and technical knowledge to design, validate, and conduct in vitro assays that clarify drug mechanisms of action and enhance therapeutic efficacy.
  • Analyze complex biological data to support informed decision-making and guide optimization of lead candidates.
  • Communicate scientific results and strategic recommendations clearly and effectively across the BMS organization.
  • Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal abilities to promote collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree — 8+ years of academic and / or industry experience
  • Master's Degree — 6+ years of academic and / or industry experience
  • Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree in the Life Sciences — 4+ years of academic and / or industry experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree in the Life Sciences — 4+ years of academic and / or industry experience
  • Proven expertise in the discovery and development of advanced biologics that influence immune function, including bispecific antibodies, biparatopic antibodies, masked antibodies, and immune cell engagers
  • Extensive experience in designing, developing, and optimizing high-throughput cell-based assays for antibody screening
  • Direct involvement in IND-enabling studies encompassing data generation, analysis, interpretation, and documentation
  • Comprehensive understanding of cancer immunology with particular proficiency in T cell-based in vitro assays
  • Demonstrated scientific curiosity, perseverance, and a strong commitment to resolving complex biological challenges through innovative approaches
  • Strong leadership capabilities, with a history of mentoring or guiding scientific teams
  • Superior organizational skills, adept at managing and prioritizing multiple projects involving both internal and external collaborators
  • Established ability to analyse, interpret, and clearly communicate complex scientific data
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, effectively tailored to both scientific and cross-functional audiences
  • Advanced problem-solving abilities with demonstrated application of scientific principles to address complex research questions
