Principal Scientist (Vaccine Analytical Research & Development)
Responsibilities
- Provide scientific, automation, and operational strategy across teams developing high-throughput vaccine methods for process development and clinical manufacturing.
- Mentor and provide technical oversight and strategic guidance; potentially manage a small group of individual contributors or analytical projects.
- Represent the functional area in cross-functional/strategic teams for novel vaccine development; coordinate with internal digital technology teams to translate automation designs into operational, user-ready solutions; partner with internal and external stakeholders.
- Author required regulatory and technical documentation; ensure process/products are developed and documented per company practices.
- Build and maintain internal/external networks; engage effectively with automation vendors and regulatory stakeholders while promoting scientific excellence.
- Establish future automation and operational strategies and incorporate new technologies into laboratories.
Education (Minimum Requirements)
- Ph.D. in analytical chemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, virology or related field with 8+ years relevant experience; OR M.S. with 10+ years; OR Bachelorβs with 15+ years in the Pharmaceutical Industry.
Requirements
- Expertise in analytics for large molecules (e.g., recombinant proteins, virus-like particles, viral vaccines), including assay development within an automation-focused team; demonstrated assay lifecycle experience (validation and transfer) supporting clinical release.
- Strong understanding of automation technologies and experience developing/implementing laboratory automation strategies.
- Ability to drive technological advancements improving efficiency/productivity via physical automation and digital strategies aligned to business/pipeline objectives.
- Ability to collaborate with scientists and IT/technology experts to ensure workflow/digital solutions meet business needs.
- Advocate for automation and operational excellence; manage resources/instrumentation by prioritizing testing needs, fostering collaboration, and supporting training/development.
- Manage a portfolio of projects, multitask in a dynamic environment, and positively influence cross-functional teams.
Preferred Experience/Skills
- Experience evaluating new assays/robotic technologies and shaping strategy at platform and program levels.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong team-based collaboration.
