Job Responsibilities:
- Conduct hazard evaluations of processes involved in the manufacture of strategic materials, chemical intermediates, active pharmaceutical ingredients, including dust hazards associated with excipient blends and other materials; use experimentation, data collection, and interpretation to guide process design toward intrinsic safety.
- Organize and communicate evaluation/study results orally and in writing to BMS groups, management levels, and external partners.
- Use a range of instruments and techniques to support process R&D; conduct safety evaluation tests using standardized procedures, customizing as needed.
- Take initiative in problem solving, facilitate collaboration, and lead by generating ideas and evaluating outcomes of project directions; apply literature-based solutions as appropriate.
- Coordinate safety testing efforts among internal and external labs (including vendor labs) to support global integrated development and manufacturing network introduction.
- Develop and implement a testing strategy to support chemical registrations (e.g., REACH) across worldwide regions.
- Manage multiple projects/activities simultaneously, ensuring adherence to established priorities and effective project prioritization.
Qualifications:
- PhD in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with 4+ years of relevant industrial experience in process development or hazard evaluation.
- Pharmaceutical industry experience preferred.
- Strong technical skills in chemistry, chemical processing equipment, and calorimeters; prior experience preferred in safety testing, hazard evaluation, plant operations, process development/scale-up, and clinical material manufacturing.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities; strong verbal and written communication; capacity to manage multiple assignments.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
