Role: Principal Research Engineer I/II focused on drug product development within AbbVie's R&D process engineering team. Objectives include leading early-phase manufacturing process development for synthetic small molecule candidates, translating bench breakthroughs into pilot plant scale, and driving scientific innovation in formulation platforms. Responsibilities encompass managing manufacturing processes such as direct compression, granulation, and hot melt extrusion; troubleshooting complex process and material issues; collaborating with CMC teams to align processes with commercial manufacturing; and mentoring peers while influencing senior leadership. Qualifications: BS with 14+ years, MS with 12+ years, or PhD with 6+ years in Chemical Engineering or related fields, with deep expertise in drug product manufacturing platforms and powder material properties. Experience in scaling-up processes, regulatory data generation, and troubleshooting required. Preferred: knowledge of drug substance crystallization. High-Value: small molecule formulations, early to late preclinical stages, process scale-up, cross-functional collaboration, innovation in manufacturing technologies, and compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
