R&D Process Engineering (Chemical Engineers) designs and develops scalable processes to make drug substances and drug products (small molecules and ADCs) throughout pre-clinical and clinical development. Supports synthetic route design, process definition, scale-up, and tech transfer, and partners to enable robust scale-up and manufacturing of biologics and other specialized drug substance/drug product types.
Role Overview
Develop robust manufacturing processes and advance innovative technologies with strong engineering fundamentals. Lead identification and development of novel approaches/technologies to improve process development efficiency and commercialization.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop robust manufacturing processes and support assets through all phases of development.
- Participate in and/or lead project teams for new small- and large-molecule asset development and characterization; establish and execute research plans.
- Develop commercial-ready manufacturing processes; demonstrate in the pilot plant.
- Set project strategies, define responsibilities/timelines, and provide leadership in a matrixed environment.
- Solve technical problems involving reactions, separations/isolations using reaction kinetics, transport phenomena, and mathematical modeling.
- Use process analytical technologies and model-guided, data-rich experimentation.
- Build data- and knowledge-driven models to enable scale-up and tech transfer.
- Author/review technical documents and contribute to regulatory filings.
- Collaborate cross-functionally; communicate findings/recommendations effectively.
- Author publications and present at scientific conferences.
Qualifications
- BS/MS/PhD in Chemical/Bio Engineering or related field.
- 14+ (BS), 12+ (MS), or 6+ (PhD) years relevant industrial experience.
- Strong chemical engineering background; proven ability to solve difficult technical problems and champion new technologies.
- Scientific leadership; effective oral and written communication.
