Operations
Responsibilities:
- Provide technical assessment/support for API manufacturing operations (oligonucleotides, peptides, bioconjugates) including process knowledge, equipment/process support, optimization, equipment capability/asset management, and engineering business systems.
- Perform impact/risk assessments for purification equipment/unit operations (e.g., chromatography skids/columns, TFF skids).
- Drive purification equipment design and qualification documentation; represent process engineering in Facility Acceptance Testing.
- Conduct equipment walkdowns during commissioning/qualification; troubleshoot and provide paths forward.
- Guide automation recipe/procedure discussions for correct equipment operation.
- Mentor junior engineers; author/review/approve technical reports and regulatory submissions; maintain records/technical notebooks.
- Ensure safety-first mindset and compliance with Quality System requirements and cGMP.
- Assess rig fit via data package review plus modeling/simulations/experiments for scale-up (heat/mass transfer).
- Coordinate with HSE, Quality Assurance, Tech Services, Development, Operations, FUME/C&Q, Automation, Maintenance, Environmental Monitoring, and Manufacturing.
Basic Requirements:
- BS or MS in chemical engineering (or related) and at least 5 years in pharmaceutical/biotech/CMO supporting API process engineering/manufacturing or development.
- Full-time U.S. work authorization (Lilly does not sponsor visas/work authorization).
Additional Preferences:
- Experience with unit operations/equipment & control strategies (e.g., chromatography types, TFF, distillation, lyophilization, enzymatic ligation); GMP troubleshooting/root-cause analysis.
- Software experience (DeltaV preferred; Rockwell, OSI-PI, Dynochem, Aspen, electronic lab notebooks).
- Strong analytical/problem-solving and communication skills; process control understanding; initiative; mentoring.
