Principal Engineer, Downstream Processing

Role: Principal Engineer, Downstream Processing supporting Lilly's genetic medicines pipeline, focusing on process transfer and optimization at pilot scale (e.g., 250L). Responsibilities: provide expertise in downstream unit operations such as chromatography, filtration, ultracentrifugation; perform yield and recovery analyses; troubleshoot process issues; create and review SOPs and protocols; collaborate with development teams for process robustness. Requirements: BS in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, or chemical engineering with 5+ years or MS with 3+ years of relevant downstream process development experience; experience with purification of recombinant AAV or lentivirus preferred; familiarity with mammalian/insect cell feeds, automation, and software tools like Unicorn and JMP advantageous. High-Value: focus on gene therapy vectors (AAV, lentivirus); process development for biologics or viral vectors; early to late-stage process transfer; technical troubleshooting and data analysis; work in biotech manufacturing scale-up environment.
