Principal Engineer, CMC Development Pilot Operations

Role: Principal Engineer leading LNP and formulation manufacturing operations for early-stage biopharma development at Moderna. Objectives include delivering high-quality material rapidly to support non-GMP IND and ASU manufacturing, ensuring technical readiness, compliance, and operational excellence. Responsibilities encompass building and managing phase-appropriate manufacturing models, collaborating with Quality, Process Development, Analytical Labs, and GMP facilities, and driving technical problem-solving and knowledge transfer. Requirements: degree in Chemical/Biomedical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or related field; 5+ years (PhD), 10+ years (MS), or 12+ years (BS) in biopharmaceutical development; experience managing development teams and pilot/early manufacturing, especially in LNP and formulation. Preferred: deep experience in preclinical manufacturing, technology transfer, and process development. High-value: focus on LNP and formulation for early development, supporting IND and toxicology studies, with cross-functional collaboration across Quality, Process Development, and Manufacturing; onsite role in Norwood, MA.
