Principal Engineer 1, Data Platforms

Role: Principal Engineer 1, Data Platforms at Halozyme, leading the design, development, and operational management of the company's Microsoft Fabric-based data lakehouse platform. Objectives include delivering scalable, high-quality data solutions to support R&D, Commercial, Manufacturing, and other functions, ensuring platform reliability, performance, and governance. Responsibilities encompass architecting the data platform, providing technical mentorship, building ingestion pipelines from multiple source systems (ERP, Veeva, LIMS, etc.), managing external vendors, and implementing support and data quality frameworks. The role involves defining and tracking technical KPIs, ensuring compliance with data governance (including GxP requirements), and enabling self-service analytics via semantic layer development. Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field, 10+ years of data engineering experience with at least 2 years in senior or lead roles, and strong hands-on expertise with Microsoft Fabric, PySpark, T-SQL, and modern ELT/ETL workflows. Experience with medallion architecture, data governance tools, and regulated industry standards (GxP) is required, with preference for candidates familiar with pharma-specific source systems and AI/ML workloads on Lakehouses. This role reports to senior leadership, collaborates across multiple functions, and may involve vendor management.
