Principal Business Systems Consultant - AI Platforms

Role Summary

As part of AbbVie’s Business Technology Solutions (BTS) team, R&D Global Therapeutics is dedicated to building and deploying scalable, business-driven Artificial Intelligence (AI) Applications and Platforms. We are seeking a Principal Business Systems Consultant, AI Platforms, to lead the strategy and execution of automation initiatives, with an emphasis on AI document generation solutions. You will guide the evolution of AbbVie’s AI platforms by collaborating with data scientists, engineers, and business stakeholders to design, validate, and operationalize impactful AI use cases. You will gather, analyze, and prioritize business and technical requirements to accelerate delivery of Generative AI solutions that address key business challenges, shaping and managing the use case backlog and translating requirements into actionable development plans.

Responsibilities

• Works with senior business unit clients to understand specific business processes, business drivers, and business strategy across multiple functions; identifies, prioritizes and communicates needs and opportunities for business process improvement enabled via technology; translates business requirements to BTS and functional requirements to the domain.
• Proactively investigates capabilities of existing systems and technologies; investigates emerging internal and external technologies and connects them to address business needs. Directly interacts with Functional Sr Directors/Directors and their senior staff.
• Defines needed human and technology capabilities contributing to training; mentors, identifies, communicates, and participates in opportunities to improve process and/or technology including BPM practices.
• Accountable for the creation and refinement of project requirements and for BTO Demand initiation and coordination; anticipates risks and defines mitigation plans; resolves changes to scope, issues, and risks affecting multiple/large-scale projects/programs.
• Measures performance to ensure project progress; ensures the technical solution aligns with business needs and strategic decisions; understands AbbVie’s vision and uses it to broker services.
• Navigates cross-functional and matrixed teams; defines authority for a significant area of work and delegates assignments across projects/programs; accountable for actions and decisions.
• Anticipates and responds to business needs; evaluates IT solutions using best practices; manages resources and mentors cross-functional teams; works with governance bodies to ensure alignment.
• Seeks strategic business opportunities for IT capabilities across multiple areas; interacts with executives to provide strategic analyses and insights; experience managing a project/program budget of at least $1 million.
• Builds collaborative relationships with business/technology senior leaders; serves as a senior liaison and subject matter expert; communicates business drivers and processes to IT organizations.

Qualifications

• Required:
• Bachelor's Degree with 9 years’ experience; Master's Degree with 8 years’ experience; PhD with 4 years’ experience.
• Demonstrable knowledge in financial planning and evaluation, business plan development, investment modeling, portfolio planning, and lifecycle methodologies (SDLC); knowledge of the Pharmaceutical industry is preferred.
• AI Product Management experience.
• Proven experience managing/delivering AI use cases, with a focus on generative AI solutions.
• Experience in software requirements definition and elicitation workshops with stakeholders.
• Experience with software development best practices and Agile methodologies/tools (e.g., JIRA, Confluence).
• Strong technical background with the ability to understand and discuss technical concepts.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to prioritize effectively.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Preferred:
• Strong understanding of large language models and generative AI technologies.
• Technical writing experience is a plus.
• Experience in Life Sciences industry and/or GXP validated systems.
• Tools and skills: SDLC Operations, Technical Writing, Agile Scrum, Jira, Confluence, Microsoft M365 Suite, Strong Presentation Skills.

• Relevant advanced degree as noted in qualifications (Bachelor’s/Master’s/PhD) with corresponding years of experience.
