Role Summary

Preclinical Research Scientist for Neuroscience Drug Discovery

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the Associate Director, engages in preclinical drug discovery activities for diseases in Neuroscience field, especially neurodegenerative and rare neurological diseases.
  • Participates in cross-functional drug discovery research projects and is represented as a biology expert to collaborate with colleagues in NS DDU as well as internal partners.
  • Contributes to compound selection and data generation toward clinical candidates.
  • Understands the drug discovery research to draw the research plan and ability to execute the accurate and reproducible experiments using skilled expertise and techniques with appropriate data analysis method.
  • Develops or incorporates cutting-edge technique to discover novel drugs and to improve scientific expertise in Neuroscience DDU. Also engages with projects within Neurodgeneration Drug Discovery Laboratories by sharing one's insight and idea to support moving forward smoothly.
  • Integrate and leverage science expertise to explore and select clinical candidates which accompanies scientific attractiveness, feasibility, fitness to the organizational strategy, and competitiveness.
  • Establish the research plan and conduct it to obtain critical data for the decision making in the compound selection and project stage-ups.
  • Assertively learning the innovative technologies and methods for the key experiments to understand the value of the target and asset.
  • Contributes to scientific input as a biology core member or a functional leader of a project thorough one‚Äôs collaborative way of work with the key stake holders in Takeda.
  • Identifies, engages, and ensures the success of platform technologies in the neurodegenerative disease area for the target validation, mechanism of action, and asset generation to provide the innovative acceleration of the asset generation.
  • Keeps up to date with the latest scientific advancements and captures the future trends in the drug discovery in neurodegenerative disease area.
  • Reports and consults with one‚Äôs supervisor about issues in a timely manner to enhance working culture where group members are empowered to commit to their job and demonstrate their ability in the daily work.
  • Complies with a healthy and productive research environment through good learning and knowledge of operations in EHS, biosafety, animal handling etc.

Qualifications

  • High motivation to be a project leader in the NS research area.
  • Experience in drug discovery research (in vitro or in vivo or both) for more than 5 years.
  • Assertiveness to learn new area of disease and biology for drug discovery including target validation, high-throughput screening, hit-to-lead optimization, and preclinical development to select clinical candidates through in vitro and in vivo data acquisition.
  • Strong commitment to generate clinical candidates to achieve IND followed by positive ePOC.
  • Collaborative way of work in the cross-functional collaborations and in one‚Äôs team.
  • Understanding and compliant with the EHS, biosafety, ethics, and facility rules
  • Resilient, honest, and transparent in one‚Äôs work to face scientific challenges in a timely manner.
  • Language skills in Japanese and English enabling collaboration with global stakeholders.
  • Experiences to be a leader in a team which had the diversified back ground and expertise.
  • Expertise in biochemical such as ELISA, western blotting, flow cytometry, or immunohistochemical assays.
  • Track record of accomplishment in research as evidenced by quality and quantity of publications/presentations and/or inventions and/or products and clinical candidates.
