Role Summary

The district sales manager (DSM) focuses on leading, developing and creating a motivating environment for the sales staff, in order to attain desired sales outcomes. In addition, the DSM will be responsible for direct creation and capture of customer value. With ~50% field time, the function demands cultivation of close customer relationships and in-depth market knowledge and market dynamics.

Responsibilities

  • Grow the US Poultry business by leading sales execution and applying Strategic Account Management (SAM) and consultative selling to deliver agreed strategies and results.
  • Build and deepen strategic partnerships with key customers, prospects, and consultants; establish long‑term initiatives, confirm value, and review scorecards through comprehensive strategic business plans.
  • Diagnose customer needs and opportunities; co‑design customized solutions using Elanco’s portfolio; coordinate internal/external teams; and effectively communicate scientific/product messages.
  • Cultivate strong customer relationships and a high‑performance, accountable culture where people and ideas excel, aligned to a collaborative vision.
  • Develop and retain talent through targeted recruitment, continuous coaching, and capability building to spread SAM adoption and effectiveness.

Qualifications

  • Required: Education: Bachelor’s Degree
  • Required: Experience: Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in poultry or animal health sales or equivalent selling experience
  • Required: Excellent communication skills and self-starter with high initiative, sound work ethic, and demonstrated learning agility in technical areas
  • Preferred: Sales experience in Poultry industry, feed/nutritional, animal health, key accounts or strategic account skills
  • Preferred: Experience or training in strategic accounts, key account management, strategic account management (SAM).
  • Preferred: Ability to influence across multiple disciplines: veterinary, nutritional, processing, feed milling, sales and marketing, and senior management, or comparable demonstrated skill.
  • Preferred: Ability to relocate if necessary
  • Preferred: Passion for selling and animal agriculture

Additional Requirements

  • Travel: 40-60% overnight travel required, depending on location. Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record required
