Position Summary
- Work at the interface of medicinal and process chemistry within a multidisciplinary team to design and synthesize novel chemical targets, develop synthetic methodologies, and advance structureโfunction insights.
Responsibilities
- Conceptualize and execute new synthetic methodologies to screen and optimize reactions.
- Purify starting materials, intermediates, and final compounds (e.g., flash chromatography, crystallization, preparative HPLC).
- Characterize compounds using NMR, HPLC, LCโMS, and related analytical methods.
- Apply/develop single-electron chemistry approaches (photochemistry and/or electrochemistry).
- Conduct chemical development using continuous (flow) processing, automated/high-throughput screening, and computational chemistry.
- Build, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation; contribute to experimental design and scale-up.
- Review and communicate assay/analytical data; discuss project impact.
- Author peer-reviewed publications and present results in meetings.
- Uphold lab safety standards; maintain accurate, timely lab records.
Basic Qualifications
- PhD in synthetic chemistry, organic chemistry, chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, or closely related field.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States full-time (Lilly does not sponsor visas/work authorization for this role).
Required Skills
- Strong modern synthetic/medicinal chemistry with hands-on bench experience.
- Proficiency with NMR, HPLC, LCโMS, and purification techniques.
Strongly Preferred
- Single-electron chemistry experience (photochemistry and/or electrochemistry).
- Engineering aptitude for continuous/flow chemistry, reaction engineering/scale-up, process development, and automated/instrumented system design.
Additional Preferences

Compensation/Benefits (as stated)
- Anticipated wage: $58,000โ$123,200; bonus eligibility and comprehensive benefits for eligible employees.
