Role Summary

Plant Utilities Technician with a Wednesday-Saturday 1st shift schedule (6:00am–4:30pm). Responsible for start-up, normal operation, monitoring, maintenance and shutdown of Plant Utility systems and equipment within Plant Utility mechanical rooms that support the facility. Training will be Monday–Friday 7:00am–3:30pm for the first few months; after training, hours are Wednesday–Saturday 6:00am–4:30pm. Premium shifts may include incentive pay such as shift differential and/or weekend pay.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining high pressure steam and hot water boilers, controls and associated equipment
  • Maintaining boiler and cooling tower chemical treatment program
  • Maintaining all other Plant Utility equipment such as boiler pretreatment water, condensate return, natural gas, domestic potable water, tepid water, wastewater
  • Monitoring controls of plant systems using Building Automation System (BAS) or Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC)
  • Reviewing, monitoring, responding and reacting to alarm notifications from the Building Automation Systems
  • Performing Plant Utility monthly Preventative Maintenance
  • Planning and scheduling outside contractors/vendors to perform scheduled and/or non-scheduled Preventative Maintenance or general work
  • Scheduling, assigning, completing and reviewing incursions specific to Plant Utility activities
  • Communicating and coordinating with each department and within Facilities Management when planned and unplanned work events occur
  • Coordinating the execution of small departmental Plant Utility projects
  • Maintaining documents and records on all plant equipment and systems
  • Collaborating with other departments, contractors and subject areas on scheduling repairs and maintenance of plant utility systems
  • Maintaining and ordering adequate equipment, spare parts and supplies for Plant Utility inventory
  • Participating in on-call rotation

Qualifications

  • Required: Willing and able to work Wednesday-Saturday 6:00am-4:30pm
  • Required: Plant Utilities Technician II: 2+ years of related experience or HSD/GED with 5+ years of related experience
  • Required: Plant Utilities Technician III: 5+ years of related experience or HSD/GED with 8+ years of related experience
  • Preferred: Experience with high-pressure boilers and waste neutralization
  • Preferred: Not afraid to work with chemicals and steam
  • Preferred: Follow current good manufacturing practices (cGMPs) and good business practices
  • Preferred: Demonstrate basic problem solving skills
  • Preferred: Able to build and maintain positive working relationships with the business
  • Preferred: Can learn and follow routine procedures independently as well as part of a team
  • Preferred: Find working in an environment with changing priorities exciting

Education

  • AAS degree, preferably in Engineering or Construction Technologies related area

Skills

  • Building Automation System (BAS) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) monitoring
  • Preventative maintenance planning and scheduling
  • Documentation and records management for plant equipment
  • Cross-department communication and coordination
  • Contractor/vendor coordination and scheduling
