Role Summary

Phlebotomist responsible for ensuring donor safety and product purity during plasma collection, monitoring donors for errors or adverse events, and performing required sample collection, labeling, and storage in accordance with procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Identify donors in accordance with SOPs.
  • Greet donors in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Set up and readies the collection device appropriately.
  • Perform arm scrub to ensure donor safety and product purity.
  • Verify labels are clear, legible, and correctly aligned.
  • Label collection bottles as defined in SOPs.
  • Collect and label required samples at the donor bedside.
  • Inspect soft goods for breakage, kinks, contamination, or particulates in anticoagulant or saline.
  • Perform quality control of area equipment.
  • Operate automated collection equipment in accordance with SOPs and manufacturer instructions.

Qualifications

  • Competencies: Ability to understand and interpret government regulations and customer specifications.
  • Able to work in a high-pressure, deadline-driven environment.
  • Computer proficient with intermediate skills in office programs.

Experience

  • Physically arranges cases and samples in the freezer to maintain organization for retrieval.
  • Perform quality control of equipment used in processing and packing areas.
  • Obtain backup samples as required for the laboratory or customers.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.
  • Assist with administrative duties to support Donor Center initiatives as assigned.
  • Attend scheduled staff training and meetings.
  • Additional duties as related to the needs of the business may be assigned by management.
  • Monitor donors for signs of reaction before, during, and after plasmapheresis.
  • Accurately document collection issues in the center system and in accordance with SOPs.
  • Disconnect donors from automated collection equipment and ensure donor is in good condition prior to release.
  • Complete all documentation requirements accurately for machine and donation software systems.
  • Report unsafe situations or conditions to the immediate supervisor.

Preferred Experience

  • Previous experience as a phlebotomist in a blood or plasma collection center preferred.
  • Minimum of 12 months in the health field preferred or a combination of experience and education.

Compliance Requirements

  • Adhere to cGMPs, ADMA SOPs, and appropriate regulations.
  • Annual GMP training.
  • Maintain an organized and clean work environment; clean spills and floors before moving to the next task.
  • Ensure adequate supplies are available.
  • Disinfect the bed between donors.
  • Instruct donors on using the self-administered questionnaire and assist as needed.
  • Perform donor arm checks.
  • Determine donor vital signs and weight and record results in the donor center system.
  • Determine donor suitability by reviewing responses to donor questionnaire and confirm correct answers.
  • Defer donors based on donor acceptance and deferral criteria.
  • Explain deferrals and associated time frames to donors.
