Payer Accounts, Associate Director (PAAD)

Responsibilities
- Serve as lead point of contact for account management in assigned geography, including regional commercial MCOs and state Medicaid agencies; secure reimbursement for Vertex’s commercialized product portfolio.
- Secure rapid, broad, equitable access by managing profitability through effective (where applicable) payer contract negotiations, pulling through national account contracts, and ensuring appropriate pharmacy/medical benefit criteria.
- Deliver clinical and economic value propositions to key payer stakeholders (e.g., Pharmacy/Medical Directors, Quality, Health Economics/Actuarial, executive roles).
- Educate formulary decision-makers using approved Preapproval Information Exchange (PIE) materials; engage payers on Vertex pipeline.
- Conduct financial analyses; develop business plans and contracting proposals; negotiate contractual terms.
- Secure appropriate pharmacy and medical benefit criteria across assigned regional MCOs and state Medicaid.
- Monitor state Medicaid policy/legislation; monitor state P&T and DURB reviews and coordinate internal awareness.
- Develop, maintain, and execute account business plans; share customer insights with internal teams.
- Collaborate cross-functionally (market access strategy, legal, sales, field reimbursement, government affairs, medical, health economics, specialty pharmacy & trade, contracting, field operations).

Required/Preferred Qualifications & Skills
- Prior field account role experience (increasing responsibility preferred).
- 5–7+ years pharma/biotech experience with >2 years market access (specialty experience preferred); 3 years field market access preferred.
- In-depth managed care and specialty pharmacy payer landscape knowledge; working knowledge of assigned accounts preferred.
- Strategic, analytical, collaborative; outstanding oral/written communication.
- Experience negotiating direct payer contracts.
- Significant travel; valid driver’s license.
- Preferred residence in IL, MI, WI, MN, IA, MO (or within ~1-hour flight).

Education
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline.
