Patient Advocacy
Responsibilities:
- Serve as a resource on patient access and reimbursement for infused and specialty therapies.
- Assist patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers in navigating insurance benefits, prior authorization requirements, and reimbursement processes.
- Support identification and resolution of access challenges (coverage questions, prior authorization barriers, denied claims).
- Provide education on coding and billing considerations relevant to therapy access.
- Develop relationships with patients and caregivers via phone, virtual, and in-person engagement.
- Secure written/electronic HIPAA authorization within assigned geography.
- Assess patient needs and provide education and resources to support access to therapy.
- Educate patients on coverage considerations and steps for obtaining prior authorization.
- Provide information on co-pay assistance, national foundations, and free drug programs when appropriate.
- Educate physician offices and sites of care on coverage pathways and reimbursement processes.
- Provide information on common prior authorization requirements, coding considerations, and billing practices.
- Support providers and infusion centers with reimbursement questions related to patient cases.
- Investigate patient access challenges before and after infusion.
- Support review of denied claims and identify next steps.
- Escalate complex/systemic reimbursement issues to internal stakeholders.
- Partner with internal teams (Market Access, Medical Affairs, Advocacy, Case Management, Site of Care) and coordinate with partners to ensure resources for patient access.
- Adhere to policies and HIPAA requirements; report adverse events/product complaints; maintain accurate documentation.

Qualifications:
- Doctorate degree OR Master’s + 2 years patient services/access & reimbursement OR Bachelor’s + 4 years OR Associate’s + 8 years OR High school/GED + 10 years.

Preferred skills/experience:
- Buy-and-bill/infused therapies; rare disease/orphan drug experience.
- Clinical background (nursing/allied health).
- Reimbursement knowledge (prior auth, appeals, denied claims); HIPAA and FDA regulatory knowledge; OIG/internal compliance familiarity.
- Strong analytical/problem-solving; excellent written/verbal communication.
- Ability to manage complex patient situations; cross-functional field team experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, CRM, AI and relevant systems.
- Coding/billing awareness; patient support program knowledge; decision quality; stakeholder engagement.
- Rapid response to urgent access needs; matrix field effectiveness; travel up to 50%.
