Role Summary
Patient Access Liaison for UPLIZNA IgG4-RD (Rare Disease) in New York City area. Provides logistical, non-medical educational assistance to patients, caregivers, and site of care staff, with a focus on access and reimbursement for buy-and-bill/infused products. Partners with cross-functional teams to facilitate patient access to insurance, financial support, and resources, while maintaining relationships with patients, families, and healthcare providers to support ongoing therapy compliance.
Responsibilities
- Secure written or electronic patient HIPAA for patients in the assigned geography
- Develop relationships with patients and caregivers by engaging via phone, text, email, virtual or in-person connections
- Assess individual patient needs and develop an education and resource plan of action, considering the patient’s family and healthcare team to empower self-advocacy
- Educate patients on UPLIZNA coverage based on benefits and steps to gain prior authorization to ensure understanding of the medication access process
- Provide information on co-pay assistance programs, national foundations, and free drug programs as appropriate
- Educate prescribers and sites of care on coverage for Horizon rare disease therapies, prior authorization requirements, and coding/billing requirements
- Provide access and reimbursement education based on the patient’s UPLIZNA benefits to physician offices and sites of care
- Educate physician offices and/or SOC on UPLIZNA coverage and prior authorization steps to ensure access
- Investigate access challenges pre- and post-infusion, including support for denied claims and claim reviews
- Partner with Safety and PV and report adverse events and product complaints through medical information
- Work closely with Horizon cross-functional teams, Case Managers, Site of Care team, market access, matrix partners, and external vendors
- Adhere to professional standards, policies, and procedures and comply with federal, state, and local requirements
Qualifications
- Required: Doctorate degree with 2 years of patient services and/or access and reimbursement experience; OR Master’s degree with 4 years; OR Bachelor’s degree with 6 years
- Preferred: Scientific background and ability to learn product/disease information; Nursing or clinical background a plus
- Preferred: Access and reimbursement for buy-and-bill products
- Preferred: Orphan or Rare disease experience
- Preferred: Familiarity with HIPAA guidelines and FDA requirements
- Preferred: Familiarity with internal and OIG compliance guidelines
- Preferred: Ability to handle difficult patient cases and resolve hurdles
- Preferred: Team-oriented with strong communication with case liaisons and sales reps
- Preferred: Ability to respond promptly (within 24 hours) to prevent lapses in treatment
- Preferred: Strong analytical skills and ability to report meaningful regional activity
- Preferred: Proficiency in Microsoft Office
