Role Summary

Patient Access Liaison for UPLIZNA in Rare Disease, based in Baltimore, MD. Provides logistical, non-medical educational assistance to patients, caregivers, and site staff; coordinates with cross-functional teams to facilitate access to therapy and ongoing adherence.

Responsibilities

  • Secure written or electronic patient HIPAA for patients in the assigned geography
  • Develop relationships with patients and caregivers by engaging via phone, text, email, virtual or in-person connections
  • Assess individual needs of the patient and develop an education and resource plan of action, considering the patient’s family and healthcare team
  • Educate the patient on UPLIZNA coverage, steps to obtain prior authorization, and medication access
  • Provide information on co-pay assistance programs, national foundations, and free drug programs as needed
  • Educate prescribers and sites of care on coverage for Horizon rare disease therapies, prior authorization requirements, and coding/billing
  • Provide access and reimbursement education based on the patient’s benefits to physician offices and sites of care
  • Educate physician offices or sites of care on coverage and prior authorization steps to ensure medication access
  • Investigate access challenges pre- and post-infusion, including support for denied claims and claim reviews
  • Partner with Safety and PV to report adverse events and product complaints
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Case Managers, Site of Care, Market Access, matrix partners, external vendors)
  • Adhere to professional standards, compliance guidance, and applicable laws

Qualifications

  • Required: Doctorate degree with 2 years of patient services or access/reimbursement experience; or Master’s degree with 4 years; or Bachelor’s degree with 6 years
  • Preferred: Scientific background; nursing or clinical background; experience with buy-and-bill access and rare/orphan disease; HIPAA and FDA familiarity; compliance with internal and OIG guidelines; ability to handle difficult cases and coordinate with Liaisons and sales; rapid responsiveness; strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office; willingness to travel up to 50% (including overnight and weekends)

Education

  • Doctorate, or Master’s, or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with related patient services/access/reimbursement experience as specified above

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of patient access and reimbursement processes for infusion products
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong analytical abilities and ability to report on activity in the region
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work in a team environment and manage cross-functional communications
  • Ability to respond promptly to patient and provider needs (within 24 hours)

Additional Requirements

  • Up to 50% travel, including overnight and weekend commitments
