Patient Access Liaison (PAL)
What You Will Do
- Serve as a field-based patient access and reimbursement specialist supporting patients, caregivers, healthcare providers, and sites of care with insurance coverage and reimbursement pathways for Amgen therapies.
- Provide guidance on payer requirements, prior authorization, reimbursement considerations, and patient support resources to ensure timely and sustained therapy access.
- Manage assigned patient cases independently and partner cross-functionally (Market Access, Medical Affairs, Advocacy, Marketing, Case Management, Site of Care).
Key Responsibilities
- Patient Access and Reimbursement Support: Support infused and specialty therapies; assist with insurance benefits, prior authorization, and reimbursement; help resolve coverage/authorization/denied-claim barriers; educate on coding and billing.
- Patient/Caregiver Engagement: Engage by phone/virtual/in-person; obtain HIPAA authorization; assess needs and provide access education/resources; explain prior authorization steps; share co-pay assistance, foundations, and free drug programs as appropriate.
- Provider/Site-of-Care Education: Educate physician offices and infusion centers on coverage pathways and reimbursement; prior auth/coding/billing practices; support reimbursement questions.
- Access Issue Resolution: Investigate access challenges pre/post infusion; review denied claims; escalate complex/systemic issues.
- Compliance: Follow applicable federal/state/local regulations and HIPAA; report adverse events/product complaints; maintain accurate documentation.
Basic Qualifications
Level 5: Doctorate; OR Master’s + 2 years; OR Bachelor’s + 4 years; OR Associate’s + 8 years; OR HS/GED + 10 years (patient services/access & reimbursement).
Level 6: Doctorate + 2 years; OR Master’s + 4 years; OR Bachelor’s + 6 years.
Preferred Qualifications
- Buy-and-bill/infused therapy experience; rare disease/orphan drug experience; clinical background (nursing/allied health).
- Reimbursement knowledge (prior authorization, appeals, denied claims); HIPAA + FDA awareness; OIG/compliance familiarity.
- Analytical problem-solving; strong written/verbal communication; ability to manage complex cases.
- Cross-functional field team experience; Microsoft Office/CRM; access & reimbursement systems; coding/billing awareness; patient support program knowledge.
- Learning agility, decision quality, stakeholder engagement; rapid response to urgent access needs; matrix field effectiveness.
- Travel up to 50%.
Benefits (as stated)
- Base salary range: Level 5 $158,394–$185,578; Level 6 $164,276–$222,256. Total Rewards Plan includes health/welfare benefits, retirement savings plan, bonus/incentives, stock-based long-term incentives, time-off, and flexible work where possible.
