Patient Access Liaison (PAL)
Responsibilities
- Support patients, caregivers, healthcare providers, and sites of care with insurance coverage and reimbursement for Amgen therapies.
- Educate stakeholders on payer requirements, prior authorization, reimbursement considerations, and available patient support resources.
- Assist with access barriers (coverage questions, prior authorization barriers, denied claims) for infused and specialty therapies.
- Provide coding/billing education relevant to therapy access.
- Engage patients/caregivers by phone, virtual, and in-person; assess needs and provide resources; obtain required HIPAA authorization.
- Educate physician offices and infusion centers on coverage pathways, prior authorization requirements, coding, and billing practices.
- Investigate access challenges before/after infusion; review denied claims and recommend next steps; escalate complex/systemic reimbursement issues.
- Collaborate cross-functionally (Market Access, Medical Affairs, Advocacy, Case Management, Site of Care) and share field insights.
Qualifications
Basic (Level 5): Doctorate OR Master’s + 2 yrs OR Bachelor’s + 4 yrs OR Associate’s + 8 yrs OR HS/GED + 10 yrs (patient services and/or access & reimbursement).
Basic (Level 6): Doctorate + 2 yrs OR Master’s + 4 yrs OR Bachelor’s + 6 yrs (patient services and/or access & reimbursement).
Preferred
- Buy-and-bill/infused therapy experience; rare disease/orphan drug experience; clinical background (nursing/allied health).
- Prior authorization/appeals/denied-claims knowledge; HIPAA and FDA regulatory knowledge; internal/OIG compliance familiarity.
- Strong problem-solving and communication; cross-functional field team experience; proficiency in Microsoft Office/CRM/systems; travel up to 50%.
Benefits/Pay (as stated)
- Base salary range: Level 5 $158,394–$185,578; Level 6 $164,276–$222,256. Total Rewards Plan includes health/retirement/bonus/stock/time-off and flexible work where possible.
