Position Summary
The Pathologist Associate supports and assists the Pathology and Pathology Operations departments in daily operations, including Macrodissection and Microdissection.
Job Responsibilities
- Use Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and log appropriate information into the LIS and other logs as necessary.
- Assist with related duties and special projects for the Pathology/Pathologist Assistant departments.
- Collect marked areas for molecular analysis using Micro and Macro techniques.
- Maintain a clean workstation.
- Prioritize and triage specimens; handle and dispose of specimens and chemical waste per the procedural manual and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information (patients, physicians, employees, clients, vendors, company).
- Perform Quality Control/Quality Assurance tests; maintain documentation and logs.
- Report concerns related to test quality and/or patient/employee safety to a supervisor or Safety Officer.
- Maintain laboratory procedures and ensure compliance with applicable policies; recommend changes as needed.
- Perform, document, troubleshoot, and perform preventive maintenance on microdissection equipment.
- Communicate laboratory problems and non-conformities to supervisors/management.
- Promote a positive work environment through collaboration and teamwork.
- Accept other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelorโs degree in chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology (accredited institution).
OR
- Bachelorโs degree (not in the above categories) with:
- At least 60 semester hours including either 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology OR 24 semester hours of science (including chemistry, biology, and additional chemistry/biology/medical laboratory technology in combination); AND
- Completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved/accredited by ABHES or CAAHEP (may be included in the 60 semester hours); OR at least 3 months documented laboratory training in each specialty where high complexity testing is performed.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1+ years of experience.
- Relevant technical qualifications in pathology.
- Ability to work accurately in routine and stressful situations.
- Practical, current knowledge of appropriate laboratory disciplines.
- Experience working with microdissection technicians in a CLIA-certified environment (preferred).
- Knowledge of laboratory safety (biohazards/chemicals), quality control procedures, and regulations.
- Strong quantitative skills; problem-solving and troubleshooting.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Effective verbal/written communication, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
- Effective interpersonal/team skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and general Internet knowledge for business use.
- Strict adherence to defined clinical testing protocols.

- Job-specific, safety, and compliance training assigned based on job functions.
Other
- Periodic travel and some evenings, weekends and/or holidays may be required.
