Position Summary
The Pathologist Associate supports and assists the Pathology and Pathology Operations departments in daily operations. Performs day-to-day tasks including Macrodissection and Microdissection.
Job Responsibilities
- Use Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) to log appropriate information and maintain other required logs.
- Assist with related duties and special projects for the Pathology and Pathologist Assistant department.
- Collect marked areas for molecular analysis using Micro and Macro techniques.
- Maintain a clean workstation.
- Prioritize and triage specimens; handle and dispose of specimens and chemical waste per lab procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Perform Quality Control/Quality Assurance tests; maintain documentation and logs.
- Report concerns related to test quality and/or patient or employee safety to a supervisor/Safety Officer.
- Maintain laboratory procedures; ensure compliance with policies and recommend changes as needed.
- Operate, troubleshoot, and perform preventive maintenance on microdissection equipment; document activities.
- Communicate laboratory problems and non-conformities to supervisors/management; promote teamwork and a positive work environment.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical, biological, clinical/medical laboratory science, or medical technology (accredited institution).
OR
- Bachelor’s degree plus at least 60 semester hours (includes either 24 semester hours medical laboratory technology OR 24 semester hours science including specified chemistry/biology coursework), and either ABHES/CAAHEP clinical lab training or 3 months documented lab training in each specialty where performing high complexity testing.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1+ years of experience; pathology technical qualifications.
- Ability to work accurately in routine and stressful situations; strong lab safety/QA knowledge.
- Experience with microdissection technicians in a CLIA-certified environment.
- Strong quantitative, problem-solving, troubleshooting, multitasking, and communication/organization skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Physical/Training Notes (role-related)
- Work at computer; lift up to 30 pounds; sit/stand for long periods; use microscope for extended periods; perform repetitive motion; sterile techniques.
- May involve exposure to laboratory fumes/chemicals and biohazards.
- Job-specific safety/compliance training assigned based on role functions.
Other
- Periodic travel; some evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
