Position Summary
Experienced patent attorney to support clients across multiple functional areas with strategic counsel. Responsibilities include internal patent preparation and prosecution and strategic counsel such as freedom to operate, business development due diligence, and client counseling. Collaborate with in-house and outside attorneys.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and prosecute global patent applications (drafting, filing, office action responses).
- Conduct freedom-to-operate analyses; advise on patentability and infringement.
- Manage patent portfolios (patent landscape analyses and patent strategy development).
- Provide IP due diligence for business development (evaluate partner and acquisition target IP portfolios).
- Draft and negotiate license and research collaboration agreements.
- Manage outside counsel relationships to ensure high-quality, cost-effective legal services.
- Provide IP-related guidance and support to business and technical teams.
- Monitor changes in patent laws/regulations and ensure legal compliance.
Qualifications
- Registered to practice before the USPTO; J.D. degree.
- 7β10 years of patent law experience in pharmaceutical/biotechnology.
- Bachelorβs degree (or equivalent) in chemistry, biochemistry, or pharmaceutical sciences; advanced degree/scientific research preferred.
- Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication.
- Service-oriented; ability to work in cross-functional teams and drive results.
- High integrity and judgment; ability to assess business risk and communicate legal issues to stakeholders.
