Patent Counsel β Innovation Law (Princeton, NJ; Cambridge, MA; San Diego, CA)
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and prosecute patent applications (drafting, filing, managing global responses to office actions).
- Perform freedom-to-operate analyses; advise on patentability and infringement.
- Manage patent portfolios (landscape analyses and patent strategy development).
- Support business development due diligence (evaluate IP portfolios of partners and acquisition targets).
- Draft and negotiate license and research collaboration agreements.
- Manage outside counsel relationships to ensure quality and cost-effectiveness.
- Provide IP-related guidance to business and technical teams.
- Stay current on patent laws/regulations and ensure compliance.
Qualifications:
- Registered to practice before the USPTO.
- J.D. degree.
- 7β10 years of patent law experience in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry.
- Bachelorβs degree (chemistry, biochemistry, or pharmaceutical sciences); advanced degree and/or scientific research preferred.
- Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Service-oriented; effective cross-functional teamwork.
- Integrity, excellent judgment, and ability to assess business risk and communicate legal issues to stakeholders.
