Position Summary
Experienced patent attorney to support multiple functional areas and provide strategic patent counsel to key stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and prosecute patent applications (drafting, filing, and global responses to office actions).
- Conduct freedom-to-operate analyses; advise on patentability and infringement.
- Manage patent portfolios (patent landscape analyses and patent strategy to protect innovations).
- Provide due diligence support for business development (evaluate IP portfolios of potential partners/acquisition targets).
- Draft and negotiate license and research collaboration agreements.
- Manage relationships with outside counsel to ensure high-quality, cost-effective legal services.
- Provide IP-related guidance/support by engaging with business and technical teams.
- Stay current on patent laws/regulations and ensure compliance.
Qualifications
- Registered to practice before the USPTO.
- J.D. degree.
- 7–10 years patent law experience in pharmaceutical/biotechnology.
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in chemistry, biochemistry, or pharmaceutical sciences; advanced degree and/or research experience preferred.
- Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Service-oriented; able to work in cross-functional teams and drive results.
- High integrity and judgment; ability to proactively assess business risk and communicate legal issues.
