Role Summary

Ionis is seeking a paralegal to assist with our commercial agreements and a variety of other matters. The ideal candidate should have in-depth experience drafting, negotiating, and managing various agreements including commercial agreements, master services agreements (and related scopes of work), and consulting agreements for commercial-stage life sciences companies. This role is flexible to both on site (Carlsbad or Boston office) and remote placement. The successful candidate must be able to work independently to draft modifications to company template agreements and to work with legal counsel on unique agreements. The candidate will need to apply the right combination of technical skill, good judgment and common sense to resolve complex issues in an appropriate and practical manner. The candidate must demonstrate a successful record of applying a client-focused approach to work, must thrive working in a fast-paced team environment, and have a flexible attitude regarding work assignments and new learning opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Draft and review various agreements including commercial agreements, master services agreements (and related scopes of work), and consulting agreements from templates for Ionis’ core business units
  • Manage the negotiation and revision process to conclude agreements as efficiently as possible while meeting client needs and safeguarding Ionis’ interests
  • Monitor and track continued compliance under executed agreements
  • Build and foster relationships of trust with the legal team, internal stakeholders and external parties
  • Answer internal questions about executed agreements
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • California Paralegal Certificate or an ABA-approved Paralegal Certificate Program
  • 5+ years of experience supporting life sciences companies as a paralegal
  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills and superb emotional intelligence in working with others
  • Ability to be productive and self-motivated while juggling competing priorities in an evolving environment
