Role Summary

Packaging Mechanic on the Night Shift (6pm - 6am ET) at Perrigo Nutritionals, Georgia, VT. Responsible for maintenance and troubleshooting the mechanical aspects of packaging and manufacturing process equipment and piping systems in compliance with standard operating procedures, ensuring machinery operates in a clean, organized environment. Performs machine rebuilding, repair, preventative maintenance, and moving equipment, and participates in continuous improvement activities in safety, quality, and productivity. Works in a team environment across all shifts and supports 5S in the workspace.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for maintenance and troubleshooting the mechanical aspects of packaging and manufacturing process equipment and piping systems in compliance with standard operating procedures and ensuring such machinery operates in a clean organized environment.
  • Performs machine rebuilding, repair and troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and moving equipment, including packaging equipment, sanitary valves and actuators, sanitary pumps, gear and belt driven assemblies and conveyors, and belt/chain tension and alignment.
  • Performs general building maintenance for the facility grounds, HVAC, and plumbing systems.
  • Creates and completes general work orders, documenting legibly, clearly, and concisely. Interfaces and communicates with other mechanics and technicians across all shifts in a team environment.
  • Continuously looks for and helps to implement improvements to the process relative to safety, quality and productivity. Performs special projects and other related duties specific to the department as assigned.
  • Maintains 5S cleanliness and organization in the workspace and Maintenance Shop.
  • Participates in training/career development activities as assigned; performs other duties throughout the plant as needed.

Qualifications

  • Required: High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Required: Two or more years of maintenance experience in an industrial maintenance setting or comparable environment.
  • Required: Ability to properly utilize hand and power tools to perform general maintenance activities.
  • Required: Ability to read and utilize repair/rebuild manuals and drawings; follow oral and written directions; and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Required: Computer skills in Microsoft Suite and experience with CMMS/SAP or similar systems; ability to navigate computer-based training systems.
  • Required: General knowledge of utility systems (steam, water, gas) and their role in an industrial manufacturing plant operation.
  • Required: Ability to read, write, and comprehend English sufficiently to follow safety protocols, SOPs/WIs, regulatory signage, and verbal instructions.
  • Required: Must meet locally defined training requirements.
  • Preferred: Mechanic certification in complex industrial or automotive repair/rebuild procedures.
  • Preferred: Welding and/or machinist certification(s).
  • Preferred: Experience operating a lathe, mill, and other fabrication equipment.

Education

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent (as part of qualifications).

Additional Requirements

  • Physical: Able to lift 20 pounds continuously and up to 50 pounds frequently; stand for extended periods; ability to climb ladders/man lifts; stoop, squat, and bend as required.
  • Physical: Able to work in confined spaces and high areas with proper procedures; sustain reach laterally and above shoulder height; wear PPE and respirators as required; medically cleared to wear respirators without restrictions; maintain clean-shaven requirement for respirator seal where applicable.
  • Safety: Comply with all worker safety, environmental, and health practices per local requirements.
