Opto-Mechanical Engineer

Role: Opto-Mechanical Engineer supporting Surgical Instrumentation R&D, specializing in ophthalmic diagnostic and visualization devices. Responsibilities include applying advanced opto-mechanical system design, performing detailed analyses (thermal, environmental, vibrational), developing prototypes, and supporting design validation and process scaling. The role involves cross-disciplinary collaboration with optics, mechanical, electrical, software, and manufacturing teams, ensuring integration and alignment of complex sub-systems. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (8+ years preferred), proficiency in CAD tools (CREO, SolidWorks), strong knowledge of optics, opto-mechanics, and ophthalmic imaging systems (e.g., microscopes, ophthalmic diagnostics). Experience with optical design tools like ZEMAX, optical metrology, and vendor management is essential. Domain expertise in ophthalmic areas such as cataract, vitreoretinal, refractive surgery, or diagnostics is highly valued. Additional skills include failure mode analysis, risk management, and familiarity with design control platforms (Windchill). Preferred: experience in medical device development, manufacturing processes, and regulatory considerations. The position can be offered at higher senior levels depending on experience.
