Primary Responsibilities
- Execute and promote products in alignment with sales strategy in the assigned territory.
- Collaborate frequently with the District Sales Manager on day-to-day sales and strategy for product promotion activities.
- Analyze local market; develop, execute, and monitor performance/results to maximize appropriate product use in the defined territory.
- Maintain current knowledge of product, disease, competition, and market reimbursement.
- Determine, implement, and monitor optimal allocation of resources (e.g., budgets, time) within the assigned territory.
- Use advanced selling and negotiation skills to communicate persuasively with identified target audiences.
- Identify, build, and leverage advocacy channels.
- Secure product access and reimbursement within institutional systems as needed.
- Manage travel and promotional budget.
- Complete required monitoring and reporting (expenses and call reporting) using approved systems and processes.
- Maintain compliance with laws, regulations, and Vanda policies.
- Meet industry-standard credentialing requirements for healthcare providers, customer facilities, and state/local governments.
Education & Experience Requirements
- BS/BA with GPA > 3.0.
- Minimum 3 years of pharmaceutical sales experience preferred; non-qualifying candidates may be considered for an “Associate” role.
- Atypical anti-psychotic and/or orphan drug experience preferred.
- Preferred specialty experience: psychiatry, bipolar, depression, CNS, or pain management.
- Reimbursement experience preferred.
- Existing relationships (or within 24 months) with psychiatrists and/or Community Mental Health Centers in the assigned territory preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving history.
- Self-starter with goal/results orientation and proven above-average results; “hunter” mentality.
- Strong territory relationships/knowledge preferred.
- Ability to travel (may include overnights); may require out-of-territory travel and meetings outside normal working hours.
- Must reside within territory geography.
