Role Summary

The National Account Director will play a critical role in enabling patient access to Arrowhead’s first commercial asset and an expanding pipeline across multiple therapeutic areas. The role involves developing and managing strategic relationships with key payer stakeholders to secure formulary access, and leading a market access team to support the growing portfolio. This is a field-based role with travel to Pasadena, CA as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Strengthen relationships with GPO, PBM, Commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid plan stakeholders
  • Communicate product clinical and economic value to payers and key decision-makers
  • Create and maintain comprehensive account plans supporting launch and post-launch strategies
  • Lead contract negotiations, evaluate performance metrics, and ensure organizational alignment
  • Help develop the organizational structure and capabilities required to support effective payer engagement across the expanding U.S. Arrowhead portfolio
  • Monitor sales implications for each payer negotiation and take action to establish optimal access
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address access challenges
  • Provide market intelligence updates on payer trends, coverage determinations, and healthcare policy changes
  • Present payer policy insights at internal reviews, national conferences, and sales meetings
  • Ensure full compliance with US healthcare regulations, legal standards, and corporate policies

Qualifications

  • Required: 12+ years of pharmaceutical/biotech experience with a strong background in field-based market access, payer engagement, or managed markets
  • Required: 5+ years of national account payer experience with established relationships at GPOs, PBMs, and plans
  • Strong understanding of commercial, Medicare Part D, and Medicaid managed care processes
  • Preferred: Experience launching rare disease/cardiometabolic medicines
  • Experience managing national and local contracting initiatives in managed care organizations
  • Demonstrated leadership to build, develop, and lead a high-performing market access team
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills
  • Ability to translate complex scientific and economic data into payer-relevant insights
  • Self-motivated, collaborative, and able to operate with strategic independence
  • Willingness to travel up to 50%
  • Bachelor’s degree

Education

  • Preferred: Master’s / Advanced Degree (MBA, MPH, PharmD)
