Role Summary
The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field-based scientific expert that supports the scientific and business objectives of Dermatology across the product life cycle. MSLs are the primary communicators of AbbVie science within a specific geography with healthcare professionals, serving as field scientific experts on disease states and treatment options within Dermatology. This is an individual contributor role defined by AbbVie Medical Affairs.
Responsibilities
- Execute High Impact Territory Initiatives:
- Develops, executes and maintains territory plans, including HCP and Investigator engagement plans aligned with Dermatology objectives; uses data and analytics to maximize opportunities.
- Identifies, gains access to, and develops relationships with external experts in therapeutic areas within assigned geography.
- Delivers on territory plan objectives, meets deadlines, achieves goals, and documents data point observations (DPOs).
- Practices segmentation, DPOs, and optimal resource utilization.
- Ensures compliance with Corporate and Divisional Policies, including documentation related to HCP interactions.
- Scientific Resource to External HCPs and Stakeholders:
- Provides education on disease state, therapeutic landscape, and AbbVie products across the lifecycle to healthcare providers and researchers.
- Therapeutic Disease State, Landscape, and Asset Expert:
- Continuously educates self on market issues/trends, product knowledge, and new therapeutic areas; supports awareness and relationships in the Medical community.
- Supports research initiatives across development upon request, including site evaluation, recruitment, investigator meetings, external expert identification, and collaboration management.
- Maintain Cross-Functional Field Partnerships:
- Collaborates with in-field commercial teams, site management, monitoring, clinical research associates, Therapeutic Area, HEOR, and Medical Outcome Science Liaisons; helps develop and execute Account plans to meet objectives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in health sciences required; advanced degree preferred; doctorate strongly preferred in health science or clinical discipline. Relevant experience may be substituted for education.
- 2+ years of clinical, scientific/research, or industry-related experience preferred.
- Problem solving and analytics to translate territory/corporate needs into actionable objectives.
- Leadership attributes aligned with company initiatives.
- Ability to quickly learn foundational skills in Scientific Storytelling, Identifying Mobilizers, Medical Challenger, and Active Listening.
- Must meet HCIR credentialing requirements (background checks, drug screens, immunizations) as applicable.
- Travel up to 75% of the time.
