Role Summary

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field based scientific expert that strategically supports the scientific and business objectives of Dermatology across the product life cycle. MSLs are the primary communicators of AbbVie science within a specific geography with healthcare professionals. They are the field scientific experts on disease states and treatment options within Dermatology, combining business acumen, clinical expertise, and market awareness to inform a cross functional customer base internally. This is an individual contributor role that will develop the capabilities and responsibilities defined by AbbVie Medical Affairs.

Responsibilities

  • Execute High Impact Territory Initiatives:
    • Develop, execute and maintain high impact territory plans, including HCP and Investigator engagement plans aligned with Dermatology medical and scientific objectives; use data and analytics to identify opportunities.
    • Identify, gain access to, and develop professional customer-centric relationships with external experts in therapeutic areas within the geography.
    • Deliver on territory plan objectives, meet deadlines, achieve annual goals, and document meaningful data point observations (DPOs).
    • Practice core capabilities in segmentation, DPOs, and optimal resource utilization.
    • Ensure compliance with Corporate and Divisional Policies and Procedures, including accurate and timely documentation of HCP interactions.
  • Scientific Resource to External HCPs and other Stakeholders:
    • Provide education on disease state, therapeutic landscape, and AbbVie products across the product lifecycle to healthcare providers and researchers.
  • Therapeutic Disease State, Landscape, and Asset Expert:
    • Continuously educate self on market issues, product knowledge, and new therapeutic areas; build awareness and relationships in the Medical community.
    • Support research initiatives across development per R&D requests, including site evaluation, recruitment, investigator meetings, external expert identification, and external collaboration management.
  • Maintain Cross-Functional Field Partnerships:
    • Build and collaborate with cross-functional partnerships (in-field commercial teams, site management, monitoring, clinical research associates, Therapeutic Area, HEOR, Medical Outcome Science Liaisons); work with in-field teams to develop and execute Account plans that meet shared objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in the health sciences required; advanced degree preferred; Doctorate strongly preferred in health science or clinical discipline. Significant clinical and/or industry experience in a relevant therapeutic area may substitute.
  • 2+ years of clinical, scientific/research, or industry-related experience preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytic skills to translate territory and corporate needs into actions.
  • Leadership attributes aligned with company initiatives (e.g., All for One AbbVie, Clear and Courageous, Make Possibilities Real, Agile and Accountable, Decide Smart and Sure).
  • Ability to quickly learn and apply skills in Scientific Storytelling, Identifying Mobilizers, Medical Challenger, and Active Listening.
  • Must meet health care industry representative (HCIR) credentialing requirements to access facilities; may include background checks, drug screens, and immunization proof.
  • Willingness to travel up to 75% of the time.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in a health sciences field required. Advanced degree or Doctorate strongly preferred.
