Position Summary
The Molecular Geneticist develops and uses genetics and molecular biology techniques to identify potentially targetable tumor alterations and assess inherited conditions (e.g., cancer predisposition syndromes, drug metabolizers).
Job Responsibilities
- Evaluate genomic profiles of solid tumor tissue and liquid specimens (NGS-based).
- Evaluate bone marrow specimen genomic profiles for myeloid neoplasms.
- Oversee and develop RNA/DNA assays.
- Write clinician report supplements and advise on investigation strategies as needed.
- Interpret routine and complex molecular test results produced by molecular technologists.
- Develop new testing strategies (primarily oncology; other fields as needed).
- Partner with IT to maintain and improve a clinical database of genomic information.
- Oversee CLIA/CAP/ASCO-level validation of new molecular assays.
- Train/teach staff and healthcare professionals.
- Supervise molecular technologists and junior staff.
- Maintain and interpret quality control/quality assurance data.
- Stay current with scientific literature, training, conferences, and publication/research activities.
Required Qualifications
- PhD in Genetics or a related field.
- ABMG certification or Active Candidate Status in Clinical Molecular Genetics.
- Broad understanding of molecular genetics and latest genomics research as it pertains to oncology.
Preferred Qualifications
- Lab operations/management experience (preferred).
- New York State Certificate of Qualification (CoQ) in molecular oncology and genetic testing.
- Strong problem-solving; ability to analyze complex data.
- Excellent written/verbal communication.
- Independent decision-making; self-starter.
- Strong prioritization, deadline, and multitasking skills.
- Detail-oriented and highly organized.
- Professional, positive attitude; teamwork.
Physical Demands
- Sedentary work; prolonged computer screen use.
