Job Scope:
The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a scientific peer and primary conduit between the company and healthcare professionals and key medical experts (KMEs). Serves as a business strategic partner across a matrixed cross-functional field organization, partnering with clinical operations to optimize trial site selection and patient recruitment; providing global medical affairs with the “voice of the customer” to refine lifecycle strategies; and serving as a scientific resource to inform strategy.
Responsibilities
- Peer-to-Peer Relationship Management: Build long-term scientific partnerships with KMEs and healthcare decision-makers in territory.
- High-Level Data Dissemination: Deliver balanced, evidence-based clinical presentations and lead deep-dive discussions.
- Congress Leadership: Represent the organization at major medical/scientific congresses and synthesize key findings.
- Actionable Insight Capture: Collect and communicate “voice of the customer” insights on treatment patterns and unmet needs.
- Clinical Trial Support: Identify trial sites, facilitate patient recruitment, and support Investigator-Initiated Trials (IITs).
- Real-World Evidence (RWE): Identify opportunities to generate evidence of real-world therapy value.
- Internal Scientific Consult: Provide therapeutic area expertise and clinical briefings to Market Access/Commercial.
- Territory Strategic & Operational Partnership: Serve as primary field medical strategic lead; provide competitive intelligence; offer on-label educational/scientific/clinical information.
- Product Launch Readiness: Execute disease-state priming and address clinical knowledge gaps ~24 months prior to approval.
- Matrix Integration: Ensure field insights influence Life Cycle Management, Disease Area/Brand strategy, and clinical development priorities.
- Territory Strategic Planning: Develop and execute Territory Engagement Plan using analytics/CRM.
- Omnichannel Engagement: Use virtual platforms and social listening alongside in-person engagement.
- Regulatory Stewardship: Ensure compliance with global/local standards (e.g., PhRMA Code).
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (PhD, PharmD, MD) preferred.
- 3–5 years MSL experience preferred.
- Established relationships with Gastroenterology and/or Hepatology KMEs desired.
- Strong drug information communication; project management; excellent interpersonal and oral/written communication skills.
- Knowledge of FDA requirements related to MSLs.
- Strong relationship-building and administrative management; team-oriented.
- Valid driver’s license in good standing.
