The PKU (Phenylketonuria) Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a regional, field-based role supporting BioMarinโs scientific and business interests by engaging academic and clinical thought leaders and gathering strategic scientific insights. Primary communicator of BioMarin science within a designated geography; peer scientific expert in PKU.
Territory: Western US (WA, OR, CA, AK, HI, MT, ID, NV, UT, AZ, NM). Candidate to be based in the US within the region.
Responsibilities:
- Execute PKU MSL plans/tactics in territory to meet scientific objectives for products marketed and in development.
- Educate healthcare providers on PKU disease state and BioMarin products across the PKU lifecycle.
- Answer unsolicited medical questions; provide related medical/scientific information.
- Engage in scientific exchange; provide feedback on emerging clinical/competitive trends.
- Identify, document, discuss, and communicate insights to internal stakeholders.
- Maintain clinical/technical expertise in the therapeutic area.
- Compliantly collaborate with commercial and partner with medical/research.
- Support clinical trials: site evaluation/identification, recruitment, investigator meetings, external expert identification, and study management.
- Support investigator identification for other products in development.
- Support coordination of investigator-initiated research.
- Participate in local/regional/national meetings; assist with publication plan timelines.
- Develop and execute a territory plan with Medical Affairs; input/maintain internal documentation.
- Review scientific journals; lead/participate in journal clubs.
- Serve as scientific resource to commercial/marketing; support approved meetings and training.
- Own special projects and mentor others; develop and communicate professional growth plan.
- Assure compliance with operational guidelines.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- 5+ years relevant clinical/industry experience.
- 3+ years as an MSL preferred.
- Preferred: rare genetic diseases/PKU experience; product launch/development/execution experience.
- Knowledge of regulations impacting Medical Affairs/field activities.
- Excellent oral/written communication, organization, and interpersonal skills; proven team player.
- Project management/leadership experience; ability to work virtually.
- Up to ~60% travel; residency close to major transportation essential (California preferred).
Education:
- Masterโs degree in a science required; doctoral level preferred.
