Role Summary

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field-based scientist role within the US Medical Affairs organization, responsible for developing professional relationships with medical thought leaders and providing medical information and scientific support related to Jazz Pharmaceuticals' products in oncology and neuroscience. This position covers a multi-state West region and may require extensive travel.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and develop peer-to-peer relationships with key opinion leaders and healthcare providers within the therapeutic area.
  • Develop and execute territory plans in alignment with US Medical Affairs plans.
  • Identify and communicate key clinical and research issues and insights from KOLs to appropriate departments.
  • Participate in medical education for healthcare professionals through on-site presentations at healthcare institutions, investigator meetings, national conferences, advisory boards, or regional meetings.
  • Provide scientific support for activities such as medical congress staffing, advisory boards, and sales training initiatives.

  • Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to communicate complex scientific and medical information across diverse audiences; clear presentation skills; excellent planning and organizational skills; strong strategic mindset; self-motivated and autonomous; adaptability in a changing environment; negotiation skills; relationship-building and collaboration; experience collaborating with commercial teams while maintaining scientific integrity and compliance; strong digital platform skills; excellent English language skills.
  • Preferred: Demonstrated success supporting product launches in a field medical capacity; experience managing multiple molecules or therapeutic areas; track record of clinical trial site support and patient recruitment; understanding of regulatory requirements for field-based personnel.
  • Education/Licenses: Advanced degree (PharmD, MD, PhD or equivalent) with at least 3 years’ experience in Oncology or Rare Disease; or license (RN, NP, CNP, PA or equivalent) with Master’s and at least 5 years’ experience in Oncology or Rare Disease clinical practice; minimum 2 years as an MSL or similar role; experience in neuro-oncology preferred; field travel 60–70%; valid driver’s license and residence within 60 miles of a major airport.

Education

  • Advanced degree (PharmD, MD, PhD or equivalent) with minimum 3 years’ experience in Oncology or Rare Disease; or RN/NP/CNP/PA with Master’s Degree and minimum 5 years’ experience in Oncology or Rare Disease clinical practice.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as an MSL or in a comparable industry/clinical role; neuro-oncology experience strongly preferred.

Additional Requirements

  • 60–70% travel required; willingness to travel frequently.
  • Valid driver’s license; reside within 60 miles of a major airport.
