Role Summary

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field-based scientific role within US Medical Affairs, responsible for developing relationships with medical thought leaders and providing medical information and support for Jazz Pharmaceuticals. This position covers multiple northeastern states and requires established credibility to engage with academic centers of excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and develop peer-to-peer relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs) and healthcare providers within the therapeutic area.
  • Develop and execute territory plans in alignment with US Medical Affairs plans.
  • Identify and communicate key clinical and research issues and insights from KOLs to appropriate departments.
  • Participate in medical education for healthcare professionals through on-site presentations at healthcare institutions, investigator meetings, national conferences, advisory boards, or regional meetings.
  • Provide scientific support for activities such as medical congress staffing, advisory boards, and sales training initiatives.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the therapy area, Jazz products, emerging research, and competitive landscape.
  • Establish reputation as a trustworthy source of scientific information for the healthcare community.
  • Support development of Jazz’s position as a scientific authority; attend scientific congresses to stay current and support KOL activities.
  • Acquire understanding of local and national protocols and trends in disease management in the US.
  • Provide clinical presentations and information in response to unsolicited questions in academic, community, and healthcare provider settings.
  • Communicate emerging data and clinical experience through scientific exchange and peer-to-peer interactions.
  • Support data generation activities (company-sponsored studies, collaboration studies, ISTs).
  • Provide scientific support for activities such as medical congress staffing, advisory boards, and sales training initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development of the US Medical Plan and input into local strategies and tactics.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure a Key Account Management approach aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Interact with HCPs as a scientific resource to support activities aligned with the Medical Plan including advisory boards, speaker development and clinical trials.

Qualifications

  • Required: Advanced degree (PharmD, MD, PhD or equivalent) with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in Oncology or Rare Disease; or License (RN, NP, CNP, PA or equivalent) with a Master’s Degree and 5 years’ experience in Oncology or Rare Disease clinical practice; minimum 2 years as an MSL or equivalent; neuro-oncology experience strongly preferred.
  • Preferred: Demonstrated success supporting product launches in a field medical capacity; experience managing multiple molecules or therapeutic areas; experience with clinical trial site support and patient recruitment; understanding of regulatory requirements for field-based personnel.
  • Travel: This is a field position; travel 60-70% of the time; must live within 60 miles of a major airport and have a valid driver’s license.

Education

  • Advanced degree (PharmD, MD, PhD or equivalent) or equivalent clinical licensure with relevant experience as described above.

Additional Requirements

  • Frequent travel between meeting sites; regular use of computer and office equipment.
  • Work environment includes frequent external interactions and potential schedule beyond normal hours to meet business demands.
